PYP Detroit - Transdisciplinary Learning

Hello Lincoln Family!

My task here is to:  Design a wiki, blog, or staff meeting presentation for Lincoln on my new understandings of transdisciplinary teaching and learning.

Also the colleagues from our district recently returned from MACUL, and have gotten me excited about starting a blog for the whole Lincoln Family.  For the time being however, I am only going to share it with our staff.

It's been an amazing training with an awesome group of educators, and two exceptional facilitators - Robin and William.  We have a diverse group attending this training with folks representing Michigan, Virginia, Georgia, New York - NY, and even some Buckeyes from Ohio.

The trainers set up a Weebly site, which has proved to be an awesome resource with many great tools to use.  Please check out the site:  www.pyptl.weebly.com .  You will need to enter IBPYP to access the "good stuff."
Below is a excerpt from the Weebly, and will help guide us as we delve into the content I bring back from the conference to increase our knowledge of transdisciplinary teaching and learning.
The overall purpose of this workshop is to assist schools as they strive to meet the demands of national and state curriculums.  The workshop looks at tools to map local curriculums against the PYP scope and sequence documents.  It analyzes the transdisciplinary themes and examines how effective, concept based central ideas and lines of inquiry can be designed to address the curriculum in a way that is relevant, challenging and engaging.  Participants will also look at how the transdisciplinary skills are an essential element of curriculum mapping.
To start this discussion, and because of time constraints, I want to give you my favorite "take away" from the conference.  If you wish, please reply!
***With committed collaboration, the only limits we will face in transdisciplinary teaching and learning will be the limits we place on ourselves!  This holds true for how we teach and follow the requirements set forth by our district and state, how we make the PYP happen, how our kids learn, and how we learn ourselves.
